| When this building was dedicated in 2002, it was the fulfillment of a coach’s dream: a comprehensive and thoroughly modern site to challenge the athletic prowess of the youth of the city. The award-winning Citywide Fieldhouse, as it is sometimes called, is the largest high school indoor athletic facility in Connecticut. It stands as a monument to a community's aspirations, an architectural vision, the commitment of the DeStefano Admistration, and the efforts of Giordano's extensive team of contracting professionals. | ||
| The quest for a building that would be both functional and architecturally unique put a significant challenge before the structural engineers. Inverted triangular tube trusses and the precast concrete envelope became the hallmarks for both the construction challenge put to the Giordano team and, ultimately, the striking impression this building makes to all who experience it. The dramatic high bay entryway is enhanced by a series of murals depicting the events of the competitive athletes. Be you athlete or spectator, this is a building that you will remember. | ||
